Girly book club

We are a group of 6-15 women, aged 30 and up, from Halifax who meet approximately once every six weeks throughout the year. We take turns hosting in our homes. The host supplies snacks and guests supply the beverages. Lately we have been meeting on Sunday or Monday evenings from 7-9pm although the schedule varies depending on members' schedules.

The club started in July 2007 with the following description: "We read feminist fiction, post-colonial fiction, multi-cultural fiction, political fiction...and romance novels (because hey - why not?!)". We have stayed relatively true to this mantra; however we try as much as possible to choose books from a wide variety of genres and subject matters. We have read classics; contemporary favourites; prize winning novels; self-discovery books; graphic novels; science fiction and more. Our book club has even been featured on the CBC show Living Halifax! Some examples of books we have read/are reading include:

Currently our book club is full, but there are vacancies throughout the year. We are always interested in diversifying our membership and welcome members who can commit to attending regularly. Please email if you are interested in joining.
